Tourism in India

India, a land steeped in history and vibrant culture, boasts an unparalleled diversity of tourist attractions. From the magnificent Himalayas to the serene beaches of Goa, from the architectural marvels of the Taj Mahal to the bustling streets of Mumbai, India offers something for everyone.

Yet, despite its vast potential, the Indian tourism industry faces several challenges. This article delves into these challenges and proposes actionable steps to unlock the true potential of tourism in India.

Tourism opportunities

India which is a civilizational state has a history of thousands of years. From the Paleolithic sites of Bhimbetka to the modern Parliament it has architecture of all major types found in the world. The Victorian Gothic buildings of Mumbai are breathtaking, but then Mysore Palace is equally mesmerizing.

Similarly, we cannot drop the Taj Mahal if we are talking about elegance and opulence. But, unlike some countries, our attractions are not limited to these marvelous architectures. We have the massive Himalayas, they are not just guarding us but are the sites to behold. Similarly, the wildlife of Kazirangha cannot be ignored. Thus, we have the attractions for each type of tourist from religious, to naturalist to adventure sport lover to wildlife photographer.

Lacunae in our setup

But how many of us know what our history was? When and how? We have forgotten what we read in school because we felt history is so boring!! But it’s not! We need to make sure we teach and show the right history to people all over the world. That can happen only by developing our tourist destinations to a greater extent.

Why do Indians like visiting foreign countries? What is a miss from our end?

Take the example of Paris! It’s called the most romantic city in the world. They take cruise on Seine River, enjoy the historical and artistic Louver Museum and go to Notre Dame etc etc

Now think of the Taj Mahal. Let’s keep religious arguments aside. Taj was built for love. We have the Yamuna River just next to it. The Eiffel tower is built with iron. Taj with white marbles! But if we see, there is nothing touristy about Yamuna! All u see is some river just flowing next to Taj. Why can’t we make Agra as the most romantic city? Or the most visited one? Let people come and take a cruise on Yamuna. See Taj on a moonlit night. Spend time with their loved ones. Give them the reason to come.

Even if needed, can charge people and keep private dinners on a cruise, photo and video facilities can be add ons. This is just one basic example.

We have the great Elephanta caves where there are no lights! Badami caves which have huge serious monkey problems. We have Meghalaya which lacks government transport facilities. We have So many cities with less facilities which affects tourism directly or indirectly.

Tourism is not just about visiting places, but it is also about the experience and memories.

Tourism provides jobs. It gives jobs to Guides, hotel owners, hotel workers, small shop owners surrounding the places. Frequencies of flights, taxis, autos increase! Economy of the Nation can improve over tourism. Many developed countries have tourism as their best money earning business. Switzerland has flourished based on tourism and other related activities.
